Renowned throughout Latin America as the “magician of color”, Enrique Galdos Rivas artwork is known for its vibrant colors and self-described as a celebration of feelings and colors. Born in Lima in 1933, he studied painting at the National School of Beaux Arts and traveled throughout Europe and Latin America on a scholarship from Brazil’s Itamarati Culture Division. Galdos Rivas has been awarded several scholarships and received awards from Argentina, Brazil, and Peru. He was named Professor Emeritus of Peru’s National School of Beaux Arts in 1995, where he taught for more than twenty-five years. Having created over 2300 paintings, his main contribution to Latin American art has been integrating figurative painting of indigenist influence with abstract painting, from which abstract-figuration was born.
