Eugenio Cohaila

Born in the province of Tacna, in the south of Peru, Eugenio is a well-recognized and established Peruvian artist having participated in over 60 art exhibits throughout Peru, Argentina, Mexico, Bolivia and the U.S.

He studied at Tacna’s Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes, where he graduated with the highest honors in painting. He continued his post-graduate studies in painting at the Escuela Nacional Autonoma de Bellas Artes del Peru in Lima. His early works were inspired by Rembrandt, Vermeer and by the renowned Peru artist Szyszlo, whose vibrant colors and rich textural effects continue to influence Eugenio’s works today.

The paintings shown here are vibrant and colorful abstracts, effectively using negative space and minimalism to conjure dreamlike scenes.

“Eugenio draws upon philosophy, history and literature for inspiration, and defines the mood and emotions of his work using color.”
